Perry is a Chicago native, birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first appearance was on television as Jackie Harris, a character which was played by her mother in Roseanne, an ABC sitcom Roseanne. She was not allowed to begin acting by her parents until adulthood, as they feared the anxiety it could result in. Perry claims she never wanted to be an actor in high school, but she decided to begin playing as a way to make friends at Northwestern University when she switched to the university from Boston University. Perry moved to New York, where she was offered small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Homesickness then brought Perry home to California, where theater jobs were readily available. Perry was a part of Broadway in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. In 2015, she starred together with Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie. The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. Perry played a part in nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017, she played a recurring role on the ABC Political thriller Scandal which starred her father. That same year she portrayed a child character based on Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory), portraying her mother in a youthful version. The character was assigned by audition even though she was a cousin with the role.
